Do you take time to recharge?

Each one of us has stress in our lives ... and often, the stress is at work. Customer Support reps sometimes have to deal with unhappy customers, business owners and managers have to deal with employees and customers, salespeople have to deal with rejection at times, writers have to endure writer's block from time to time, art directors are paralyzed by wanna-be creatives. We all have stuff happen professionally (and personally) that drains our energy. So, what do we do? RELAX and RECHARGE.

Here are some of the ways I recharge, but there are plenty more. It's my hope you'll provide suggestions on how to recharge so you can keep your business thriving and your attitude positive ... and help others do the same. Sharing is a wonderful way to feel good about life and people ... and yourself.

READING ESCAPE. Chick lit. Comic books. Mystery novel. Entertainment magazines. Travel articles. Poetry. Anything but sales, advertising, and marketing books. Pure escape. Pure enjoyment.

RETREATS/VACATION/GETAWAY. We all need time off and away from work ... whether it's the company or the home office. Just returned from a 3-day creative writing retreat in northern Michigan. I stayed on a beautiful lake near Sleeping Bear Dunes with 30 writers. I walked, I wrote, I read, I chatted, I ate ( a lot), and laughed and laughed and laughed ... which brings me to ...

LAUGH OFTEN. SMILE FREQUENTLY. It feels good. It feels great. It feels fabulous. Laugh at jokes, laugh at yourself, laugh because you can laugh.

EXERCISE. Do it. Use the stairs. Take a walk at lunch time. Visit the gym. Jog. Take a yoga or pilates class. Ballroom dancing. Volleyball. Bowling. Golf. So many ways to move your body and have some fun while you're doing it. I'm a gym junkie. Get me on the elliptical trainer with my MP3 player _ WAH00. I love it, which brings me to another stress-reducer ...

MUSIC! I'd be lost without it. I love acoustic, pop, contemporary folk, alternative, big band, blues, alternative country ... I sing and dance when I don't think anyone is looking or listening, but most of the time I just let my heart sing and dance to it. And if I need to have a good cry, I put on a few sad love songs and let the tears come. Talk about release.

SLEEP. Replenish your body and mind. If you're not getting 7 or 8 hrs. a night, give it a try.

MASSAGE. Once 'n awhile, I indulge in getting a professional massage. It's amazing. And rejuvenating.

So how do you take care of yourself so you can take care of your business and your customers -- and better meet your goals?

rdknyvr, nck, Bridgett, Josh, CJ and all ... it's official. I am now an IBO! Just got registered today. I am nervous yet excited. Hope I can do this. sjw

Congratulations!  Just don't be like me.  I don't know how to unwind.  I seriously need to work on that.

If it's any consolation to you, I've been an IBO for about 4 months.  I'm still nervous!

Should I try Vodka?

You're great just the way you are, Nick. We have to keep comparing notes so we don't get discouraged or feel alone. Keep in touch, sjw

# Canadian IBO 2 said on October 3, 2007 5:34 PM:

Congratulations, Susan!  You can do this!

Congrats Susan!!!! You'll do just fine as you will also Nick. Everybody goes through the nervous stage (heck I still do and me and my wife have had our business for a while). But with that slight twinge of nervousness comes excitement and it's with that excitement that keeps you excited about your business and keeps you moving in a positive direction towards your goals and dreams-whatever they may be. Once again, congrats!

And Nick, try the Nutrilite Valerian and Hops instead of the Vodka-LOL!

Thank you so very much, CJ. Keep commenting ... we love your ideas for Ribbon and other products. (Check out CJ's ideas in comments on the Gift blog I wrote a few weeks ago.) sjw

Congrats Susan!!! We're excited for you!!! :) You'll do just fine!!!

# Bridgett said on October 4, 2007 2:52 AM:

Susan,

I dont' know why, but every time I think about you being an IBO, I giggle. I don't know why I find it so amusing, but I do!

And you TOTALLY can do this--whatever "this" is. :)

.

As far as your taking time to recharge, I am SO looking foward to that. I am about to finish up a project I've been on for the last six months that has quite effectively disrupted all areas of my life.

So I am VERY looking forward to having some order restored.

.

I am going 100 miles an hour and have sensory overload.

.

Simply to be still and silent (and in silence)--without passing out from exhaustion--would be quite relaxing at this point.

.

And yes I AM writing this at a ridiculously late/early hour and really should be recharging by sleeping!

G'night.

Thank you for being you, Bridgett ... and for giggling in support of my endeavors. : ) One of the nicest things about this blog is connecting with such special people who happen to be successful IBOs. Gotta love that. And I sure do! Thanks, Bridgett -- Thanks to everyone who reads the blog. sjw

CJ, if Quixtar sold vodka, would you be recommending a change in diet?
# CJ said on October 4, 2007 5:31 PM:

I guess I'd be selling XS syrup and Vodka as a pkg deal to every bar in town-LOL!

# Pedro said on October 6, 2007 5:21 AM:
Susan, I do not think that you will suceed. I also do not think that you will post this, but if you do, just know one thing...sittin in the stands ain't the same as playin the game. Best of Luck, Pedro
# Bridgett said on October 8, 2007 10:22 AM:

Hi Pedro,

Why are you such a bummer?

Maybe you need to take some time to recharge?

It's a gorgeous Monday--the sun is shining, the birds are singing, and it's going to be a fantastic day!

Hope you enjoy it.

:)

# Bridgett said on October 8, 2007 10:26 AM:

CJ,

Have you seen the new 1L bottles of the "Premium Energy Drink Mixer"? http://www.quixtar.com/products/product.aspx?itemno=713366

.

MUCH easier to use and much more attractive than those gallon jugs!

Definitely like the new design on the bottles. Will fit right in with other bottles at a bar, restaurant, coffee stand, etc..

# Nick Kobelja said on October 8, 2007 1:10 PM:

So what do you mix it with besides vodka?  Hmmm, probably not a good question.  What is something good to mix it with that is non-alcoholic?

# Bridgett said on October 8, 2007 5:08 PM:

Nick,

Go to http://www.xsgear.com/media/instructions/smoothie.asp#

There are a bunch of recipes, organized by XS flavor. xsgear.com>MORE (farthest pull-down on top menu bar)>drink recipes>smoothies (in middle of page, under "mixed drinks"

# CJ said on October 8, 2007 6:40 PM:

Hey Bridgett,

We had a chance to see them up close and personal at our organization's quarterly business conference. XS had a booth set up and they were displaying the new bottles. The rep explained to us how these bottles/pkg gives us even more concentration at a lower price. Did you also know that there is a Peach flavored version of the XS Tea coming soon? Our upline Diamond was given some samples for his group to try and it was pretty tasty! They also discussed a new program or concept of retailing/building XS that somewhat goes in line with the Incredible Edibles Concept. This new one is called Acceler8. I'm sure brochures will be soon forthcoming. I was able to get my hands on one-very interesting but you can also find it on the xsgear.com website as a downloadable pdf file by going to the section on the front page that says "Marketing Tools" and it's a workbook.

Nick, I don't know what to say about you but you are something else-LOL-you crack me up! If you go to www.xsgear.com/media/instructions/smoothie.asp, you'll see recipies for either mixing with drinks (alcohol) or making smoothies which are good if you are going to market to either a alchohol/drinking bar or a smoothie/juice bar. All you have to do is give them the recipie and help them come up with their own name to make a signature drink at their place of business. And just for Nick, there is an XSMixer flyer that discusses the profit potential on the same section of the front page under Marketing Tools.

About Susan Julien-Willson

I enjoy attending writing/marketing/advertising seminars and conferences for the inspiration and motivation they provide and I also love participating in a monthly writing group and a book club. On weekends, I am frequently found in the poetry/fiction/business/music sections of Schuler Books, my fave local bookstore, or reading magazines and sipping coffee in their café. You can also look for me on weekends at my family cottage in the summer or movie theaters or the mall in the winter. Evenings and weekends, you might spot me out walking when the weather is warm and sunny, or at the Alticor fitness center a few times a week. I love clothes and jewelry as an expression of my personal style. Because I tend to spend most of my time working, working out, or writing poetry, I don?t do the extent of volunteer work I?d like to, but I have a long list of favorite charities I support, including Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Easter Seals, American Cancer Society, Hospice of Michigan, Gilda's Club, and Habitat for Humanity.
