Welcome to the Amway Global's Sales Speak Blog
Pride helps me sell well -- true for you?

Yesterday's issue of USA TODAY featured a full-page ad by Nutrilite and Amway Global congratulating the Team Nutrilite 2008 medal winners. (It's in the Sports section.) Four athletes are featured and the common denominator between them is Nutrilite, the world's leading brand of vitamins, minerals, and dietary supplements.

It goes on to encourage readers to learn more about Nutrilite to achieve their personal best by contacting their Amway Global Independent Business Owner, visiting TeamNutrilite.com, or calling 800-253-6500. I love that the IBO is mentioned first, don't you? But what I really love, is that it's in HUGE type! You can't miss it. In fact, several of my relatives and friends did see it--along with a favorable article in the local Grand Rapids Press this past weekend on our name change and Amway Global sponsoring the Tina Turner Concert Tour.

I love it when people in my life remark on our name change, our advertising, our products. And now, the Tina tour. "Simply the Best!"

Here are some of the recent comments I've heard:

"Hey, I saw a banner on the NBC website that says, Hello, my name is ... turns out it's about Amway Global/Quixtar." "Is Nutrilite really the world's leadiing brand of vitamins, minerals, and dietary supplements?" "I didn't know Amway sponsors professional athletes." Do you use Artistry products?" "Does Amway still carry that great laundry detergent?"

Not only do I swell with pride, I take the opportunity to remind them I am an IBO and I'd love to talk more about our health, beauty, and home products. It's the perfect opening. In fact, I wasn't selling for awhile. Busy with summer life and the family cottage. Now I am going to get serious again. (I just am not as good at selling as some of you ... please keep sharing your tips!)

I'm pleased Amway Global is advertising in North America. I think it's going to help me start conversations and sell products. Maybe even sponsor! It's just what I need to get active again as an IBO. I've been sunning and swimming and boating. Time to get selling and sponsoring ... right?

BTW, an Amway Global ad will appear in Friday, September 5's issue of USA TODAY. Check it out!

Great post Susan!!! By the way, refresh my memory... did you  ever do your two Gensona tests -- IL-1 Heart Health, and General Nutrition? Did you then complete your free online Personalized Health questionnaire? Did the results guide your decision in how you personalized your lifestyle choices? Did you make any changes based on the recommendations? Did you adjust your supplementation as a result? Do you believe in supplementation as part of a healthy lifestyle?

Looking forward to your answers, as these are not intended to be rhetorical questions. :)

If you are so proud and happy (and rightly so) about the full page ad celebrating the achievements of the Nutrilite sponsored Olympic athletes, has that impacted your personal response as a user and "seller" of Nutrilite and the Personalized Health program? :)

PS... remember, as a public blogger, you are also a leader and example-setter. :)

Ok, now I am going to look bad, but I'm going to be honest. I haven't done the tests and as I mentioned to you when we discussed this before, I am afraid to find out. I am also cheap when it comes to me. It's silly not to do it, but fear is powerful and well, I am pretty certain of what I need to do, or so I think ... right?

Yes, I believe in supplementation as a healthy lifestyle, and even moreso, believe in eating right and exercising. But we can't always eat right. I am a bar and drink person ... I eat a protein bar every morning. I LOVE the new Nutrilite Sport Pretzel bars. Vanilla Pretzel is my fave. I have a bit of a problem with digesting some supplements and bars -- and ours are no exception. I have to really watch my weight so I am always looking for ways to get lots of nutrients for less calories. I gain weight very easily, but I also don't like to fuss with food for myself ... hence, my love of bars and drinks, especially for breakfast or while traveling. I tend to be a late afternoon snacker before I work out, so I find the bars quite handy. You'll always find some in my desk drawer. I enjoy our sugar-free sports drinks and XS Peach Tea Blast. I love eSpring water although I should drink twice as much as I do. I am SUPER excited about the new Trim line. I believe they have yummy 100-calorie bars being developed right now. When the new Trim line launches, I am seriously considering following the program for awhile, supplementation and all.

The Nutrlite-sponsored athletes don't necessarily affect my personal use of supplements since I believed in them even before we sponsored athletes, but I do like to mention the athletes and their achievements to others so I guess that you would say I find the sponsorships a plus in the selling process. Certainly, a plus in helping achieve brand awareness for Nutrilite.

Have I answered your questions? I don't think it's what you wanted to hear, but it's the truth. And you know you can count on me to be honest. sjw

OK, a couple things...

* you should always be taking your Nutrilite supplements with a meal, and as I told Cathy L., a coffee and donut isn't a meal!!!

* read up on the Gensona tests... in general, this is your professional area and you should be up to speed as a member of the Communications Dept. None of the tests tell you anything about conditions you have no control over... they won't rate you for Alzheimers risk, Huntington's, etc. The IL-1 test tells you if you have a higher risk for a type of cardiovascular disease and thus early heart attack. The brilliant thing about the value proposition we bring to the market is that we have a CLINICALLY VALID response in the IL-1 Heart Health supplement... there's a good summary of the clinical studies on our site, and check out the Interleukin Genetics website for a recent paper in the independent peer reviewed scientific journal Human Genetics Ms. IBO :) http://www.ilgenetics.com/content/about-interleukin/newsDetail.jsp/q/news-id/139

* the other Gensona test will tell you if you have special needs for oxidative stress protection based on 6 key genes. There again, our consumer value proposition includes an easy to implement solution -- the appropriate supplementation you need -- or may not need -- based on your own personal DNA. How cool is that, and why would one be afraid of that??????? LOL

To be afraid of that is like saying you're afraid to go to the doctor to get your eyes tested... what if your vision needs improvement? Of course, you then get your eyeglasses prescription adjusted. SAME THING!!!! :)

Susan, what your expression of "fear" tells me is that there is still a major "disconnect" at Amway/Alticor Marketing -- if there are still people back at "the Mother Ship" who are "afraid" of one of the products they are tasked with communicating about.

How can IBOs intelligently market Personalized Health if Amway leadership is "afraid" of the products???? :)

Hope that doesn't come across as too strong... of course, Joe Pici would say, "Too bad." :)

Sorry but you're off base here. My fear has nothing to do with this product or any of our outstanding products. My fear is about my own experiences and history. What I bring to the product. Sort of like baggage you bring to a relationship. Although I say a lot about myself on this blog, I am not about to talk about why I have the fears. I think it's unfair to make the assumption I am afraid of our products. This is all I am saying on the subject.  I advocate the product for others, but that does not mean I have to use it nor do I have to disclose why I don't use it. I don't take all of our products nor do I expect IBOs to take all of our products. I can make my own decisions. Enuf said. Why don't we go back to pride in the advertising and this company and how it can help you SELL products. Thanks, sjw

rdknyvr - You need to relax dude.  Maybe take some Nutrilite vitamins or something.

Personally, I am XS-cited that Amway Global/Quixtar is pursuing various marketing initiatives!

Susan,

Thanks for the post. I think the Amway Global advertising has certainly helped to develop a pride and awareness in our products and business.

Personally, I think it's helped my low-activity IBO's the most. When they see the ads they've often talked to me about it and are always excited to see the Amway Global/Quixtar name on TV and elsewhere.

A couple of them have definitely upped their retail volume and are looking to see what else they can do with their business!

Karim, you're right and your point is well taken. Susan and I have been talking offline by email and I explained to her that my intention wasn't to come across as strongly as it seems to be (although I am fairly passionate and feel strongly about that particular area of product)... I should re-read my posts more carefully before putting them up... and stay on the topic. :)

Thanks for pointing this out, appreciated. :)

I took both Gensona tests. I was okay for the heart test, which is  good, as there is some heart disease in my family. However, this doesn't mean I should let my guard down and stop eating, exercising, managing my stress, and resting properly. There may be other heart related factors that could eventually "get" me. The general health test showed I am not as efficient as others at absorbing B vitamins, making my daily intact of XS Energy syrup, mixed with water, iced tea, etc., even more important. There is nothing to be feared with these tests, and much to be gained. Even if the tests are all negative, you have more peace of mind, which is hard to put a price on. If the tests do show a positive outcome, it is something you can use more care to address.

Susan, I also swell with Pride when there is a commercial on or a magazine add etc. Today there was a big sign on the Honda Center here in Calif. for Tina Turner's concert sponsored by Amway Global. It was so great and it just empowers all of us who are building this business to have that level of credibility.

About Susan Julien-Willson

I enjoy attending writing/marketing/advertising seminars and conferences for the inspiration and motivation they provide and I also love participating in a monthly writing group and a book club. On weekends, I am frequently found in the poetry/fiction/business/music sections of Schuler Books, my fave local bookstore, or reading magazines and sipping coffee in their café. You can also look for me on weekends at my family cottage in the summer or movie theaters or the mall in the winter. Evenings and weekends, you might spot me out walking when the weather is warm and sunny, or at the Alticor fitness center a few times a week. I love clothes and jewelry as an expression of my personal style. Because I tend to spend most of my time working, working out, or writing poetry, I don?t do the extent of volunteer work I?d like to, but I have a long list of favorite charities I support, including Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Easter Seals, American Cancer Society, Hospice of Michigan, Gilda's Club, and Habitat for Humanity.
